High Relevancy: Tunable and Out-of-the-Box

Ultraseek delivers superior relevance and a rich end-user experience that quickly locates information across your enterprise and beyond. With little or no customization, one- and two-word queries return extremely relevant results, while selectable options let you enhance result list presentation and functionality to meet specific end-user needs.

Superior Relevance

End-users quickly find the right information with one- and two-word queries thanks to Ultraseek's high out-of-the-box relevance. Search options include keyword, phrase, wildcard, field, range, implied Boolean and advanced operators. Relevance is determined through an optimized combination of enhanced linguistics techniques, stemming, link analysis, and weighting based on term location, frequency, and rarity. Thesauri and custom dictionaries can also be integrated to support specific industries and business objectives.

Secure Search

Hit-level filtering of results lists are supported for both basic and NT Challenge/Response authentication. This ensures that only those documents that a users is authorized to view will appear in results lists. If the user isn't authorized to view a document, he won't even know it exists.

Page Expert

Ultraseek's Page Expert increases relevancy by recognizing patterns in HTML pages so that the spider indexes only the relevant content (adaptive spidering), and skips over navigation, menus, advertisements and common template-generated text. Page Expert's filters can be automatic, or customized to match your local page conventions and templates and then tested to see a visual representation of what affect a specific set of filters has on a particular page. This feature is particularly valuable in Web environments in which author-written indexing directions are missing or inconsistent.

Intelligent Indexing, Multi-spider and Weblog Update

Enterprise information is typically found in hundreds of document formats that are spread across Web servers, systems, secure systems, and other repositories. They may be written in one language or many, depending on the content, the company and the country. Ultraseek’s intelligent, adaptive spider indexes all of this content into a common Ultraseek Index that makes it searchable with a single query. Ultraseek can even spider Javascript, allowing it to find and index dynamically generated Web pages. Structured and unstructured information sources can also be brought together in the index through Ultraseek’s optional lightweight database connectivity.

Relevance Tuning and Editorial Control

Ultraseek’s search results can be tuned to match information structure and end-user needs with relevance tuning options that deliver comprehensive control over the relative weighting of metadata fields.

In addition, Ultraseek’s exclusive Quick Links feature provides editorial control over search results, allowing keywords to be manually associated with specific URLs that are returned above normal search results. For example, a query for “printer” on an e-commerce site could return a Quick Link as the first result, directing users to the “Buy This Printer” page.

Contextual Summaries

End-users can quickly determine the context of query terms in Ultraseek results lists by scanning document descriptions created by intelligently extracting relevant passages in matching documents. This both accelerates the information discovery process and reduces load on your network by allowing users to identify the most relevant documents without actually having to open and read them.

Spelling Suggest

Many unsuccessful searches are the result of incorrectly spelled query terms. Ultraseek automatically suggests alternative spellings for misspelled queries, using a dictionary dynamically built from the index. This can dramatically increase user satisfaction in information environments with complex terminology, and decrease abandoned shopping carts on ecommerce sites by ensuring customers find products even if they aren’t sure of their spelling.

“No-hits” Forwarding

Getting no results to a query can be just as bad as getting too many. End-users can broaden searches that don’t return any results by clicking less restrictive queries that are automatically presented by Ultraseek.

Results Grouping by Site

Grouping results by website or folder location helps users quickly sort through results list to locate the most relevant information for the task at hand. It can also save time in the future by showing end-users which sites or folders are the most useful sources of information.

Automatic Title Replacement

Most documents created in the day-to-day business of a company either have no title listed in their properties or metadata, inherit titles from previous documents or have titles that are intelligible to most users. Ultraseek can intelligently replace incorrect or missing document titles with meaningful, automatically generated titles to help users find the right document faster.
