Term Highlighting in more doc types
-----------------------------------

The following additional document types are now supported for
highlighting. Ultraseek converts documents of these types to HTML
before highlighting them.

  Microsoft Word
  Microsoft Excel
  Corel WordPerfect
  Lotus 1-2-3
  Lotus WordPro (Windows only)
  Rich Text Format

Information Server Migration
----------------------------

Users can import the collection configuration from the Verity
Information Server product.  Only collections that were created
through the Information Server web administration tool will be
imported.  Collections created with the command line spider will not
be imported.  Go to New Collections/Import/Help for more information.

Web Services
------------

A SOAP web service is now built into Ultraseek. Clients may call five
operations: authenticate, describe, search, suggest, and visitURL.  A
WSDL description for these services is available on Ultraseek.
For an overview and links to the WSDL, visit the
"/webservices/index.html" URL on your Ultraseek server.

Follow JavaScript Links in HTML
-------------------------------

Ultraseek will attempt to find URLs contained in the JavaScript
content of an HTML page.  It will look for URLs in between <script>
tags, in event handler functions within normal tags, and in
"javascript:" strings contained in "href" attributes.  The JavaScript
is not actually executed, so dynamically generated URLs will not be
discovered.

The URLs must pass the collection filters to be added to the URL
database of a spider collection.

The "Follow links found within JavaScript" checkbox on the
Collections/Filters page toggles this feature on and off.  By default,
the feature is on for both new and upgraded collections.

Implementation Changes
----------------------

Database document licensing is now separate from regular document
licensing.  This may require an updated license key to set the
database document license count correctly.

Ultraseek no longer allows the license key to be locked to a
non-fully-qualified domain name.  Current license keys that violate
this policy will become invalid, and a new license will need to be
obtained from an Ultraseek sales representative.
For example, the following hostnames are now invalid:
    localhost
    www
    search
These names are valid:
    www.domain.com
    search.domain.edu
If a fully qualified domain name cannot be found, the license key can
be locked to the IP address of the machine.

Added controls to the Activity/Collections tab in the administrative
interface to allow delete, suspend, resume, and clear of multiple
collections at once.

Session IDs and engine IDs are removed from BroadVision URLs.

Spelling suggestions are made when the Advanced query form is
in use.  The Advanced query form has been reformated.

Added separate weight for URL terms under Collections/Tuning.
Set the weight to zero to disable search terms extracted from URLs.

Error logs now have a rentention value separate from access, query and
click logs.  The access, query and click logs are needed for creating
reports, so they should be kept around longer.  These values can be changed 
on the Server/Parameters/Advanced page.

In the Style Editor, you can now specify the following features:
Query Suffix, Spell Suggestions, passage-based summary, lowercase query.

Correction to Documentation
---------------------------
Previous documentation indicated that Lotus WordPro documents were
supported. They are supported only on Windows NT, Windows 2000 and
Windows 2003, not on Linux or Solaris.

Known Issues
------------

Both spell checking and passage-based summaries use additional
computing time during a query. This overhead can affect the
performance of the query server, reducing the maximum number of
queries per second. If performance is critical, disabling these
features will increase the peak queries per second.  You can disable
these features on a per-style basis using the style editor.

Junk data sent to the Korean linguistic software may cause a server
restart when the server is under heavy load. Usually this is caused by
a document having an incorrect encoding set in the HTTP EQUIV tag.
Correcting the tags for these documents will reduce the problem. Any
documents active after the restart will still be indexed.

The DB2 driver does not support indexing multiple tables in a single
collection.


RELEASE NOTES FOR THE LINUX RELEASE

WARNING FOR INKTOMI SEARCH 4.1 and 4.2 LINUX USERS
--------------------------------------------------
Due to a change in the URL database format, users of Inktomi 
Search 4.1 and 4.2 on Linux will notice an error message after
upgrading the server.  Users upgrading from versions 4.0
or previous will not notice this.  If 4.1 or 4.2 URL databases 
are detected, the following log message will appear:

   Version 4.1 or 4.2 URL database file detected.  This is 
   incompatible with this version.  The URL database is being 
   backed up, then it will be erased.

The site will be revisited immediately.  Be aware that this
may cause extraneous documents to appear in the index that
have actually been removed from the site.  If this condition
is detected, clear the collection to remedy it.

SUPPORTED OS VERSION
--------------------

Ultraseek has been tested on RedHat Linux 7.1 and later, with
a kernel version of 2.2.5 and glibc 2.2.4.

C++ LIBRARY REQUIRED
--------------------

The C++ runtime library libstdc++-libc6.1 is required
to run Ultraseek.

If you are using RedHat Linux, this file is part of:

When reporting a problem, be sure and include your 
Linux distribution, the version of your kernel (uname -r),

  Ultraseek will index postscript files if you have
  installed ghostscript and it is on your path.



RELEASE NOTES FOR THE SOLARIS RELEASE

OS FILE HANDLE REQUIREMENT
--------------------------

Ultraseek requires at least 1024 file handles be available.
If your system's hard file-descriptors limit is set to less
than 1024 the server will report an error message and
refuse to startup.

You can find out your hard file-descriptors limit as follows:
    sh
    ulimit -Hn
    exit

If ulimit returns less than 1024, you will need to manually increase 
the hard limits in your system configuration.

In Solaris 2.4+, this can be accomplished by adding the
following lines to /etc/system:

*Set hard limit on file descriptors
set rlim_fd_max = 4096

Save the changes and reboot Solaris.
