Question:

Why does my installation keep failing with "Can't create initial database objects".

Answer

This error message indicates that a dll required by the Classifier does not exist on your system.

There is one dll supplied by the Adobe Acrobat Reader program that is sometimes missing. If you do not have an Acrobat Reader installation, please download it and try the Classifier installation after installing Acrobat Reader.

Note that you must choose "Yes, Create Classifier database" during the installation even though "No, do not erase Classifier data" is the recommended choice.

If you do have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, the problem may by your Java Development Kit version. Confirm that the Java Developers Kit version on your system matches the system requirements detailed in the Installation and Maintenance Guide. If the JDK or SDK version is correct, contact Inktomi Technical Support to troubleshoot further.
