Question:

Why do I see different titles in the directory when I am browsing a topic and when I am searching?

Answer

There are three possible sources for the title that displays in the directory. The decisions made by the Verity Advanced Classifier administrator and the topic's editor affect whether the search results title and the directory title are the same.

The types of titles are:

  • File Name - The name the author gave the document when saving it to a drive.
  • Metadata Title Tag- The title created by the author or a content management system.
  • Directory Title - The title field in the Directory Management Toolset (DMT) which is editable by an editor for each topic.

When a document is added to Verity Advanced Classifier, information used to identify it is also added. The file name and the metadata title tag are stored in fields that cannot be edited. Based on an administrative setting, either the metadata title tag or the file name are also copied into the directory title field, which is what displays when end-users are browsing the directory. Each topic's editor can overwrite the directory title with a title more appropriate for the specific topic.

Note: None of the edits made in Verity Advanced Classifier affect the metadata on your source documents.

The directory shows the directory title when browsing a topic. If the editor has modified the display title or the field is set to hold the file name rather than the title tag, the displayed title is different from the metadata title shown on the search results page.

The titles displayed in search are based on the Inktomi Search spider results rather than the information in the Verity Advanced Classifier database. This is because editors can change the title for each topic and the search results must display only one title. The default Inktomi configuration is to display the metadata titles or the file name if the metadata title is blank.
