Question:

What does 'contains nulls - probably binary data' mean?

Answer

The "contains nulls - probably binary data" message means; the document contained NULL characters. The NULL characters caused the indexer to infer that the document was most likely binary data with the Web server misinterpreting the content type. The indexer therefore didn't index the document.

If you want to index HTML files that have NULL characters in them, you can set Ultraseek to handle the content as text or binary content.

To do this:

  1. Go to Server / Doc Types in the admin interface.

  2. If the document type is to be interpreted as text, make sure the corresponding Text checkbox is selected.

  3. If the document type is to be interpreted as binary, make sure the corresponding Text checkbox is not selected.
